White Water Rafting

Author's Note: This piece that I am writing about actually happened in a time of my life. In this past Summer I went white water rafting with my family. There were a lot of different twists and turns in this adventure that I had before. Also In this piece, I wanted to would on my word choice. Since I had a blast white water rafting, I wanted other people to see the adventure as I saw it. I want them to create a clear picture in there minds of this trip I had.

As I was packed in the big van with my cousins, we sat there anxiously waiting to get to the river. We were driving along the side of the river. We couldn't help ourselves so we starred into the dark blue water that was sparkling in the sunlight. We were already talking about who was with who in the boats as we pulled up to the parking lot. As we pulled up, we saw people with our vests, boats, wetsuits, and helmets. We all put on our gear, got in the vans and drove off into the docking station.

All of us were screaming with excitement as we helped untie the boats. Yes, of course we had to sit through a long safety seminar so we knew how to react if the boat flipped over, or if we flew out of the boat. Once everything was completed, we started to push our big blue boats into the water.

We stepped into the boat, feeling the ice cold water on our feet and hands as we paddled our way down the river. Right when we got the boat into place, there was a rapid right in front of us. There were big white waves crashing toward us as we were paddling threw. Thankfully, no one fell out of the boat, but we were  tossed around a little bit. All of my family members in my boat thought it was a big rapid, but according to the guide, it was just the beginning.

We went threw other rapids, big and small. The waves crashing in our faces as we paddled our way through. Although, paddling threw rapids wasn't all that was exciting. As we reading what they called a swimming spot, there was a big rock ahead of us. It was tall with a ledge on top. And of course it was for jumping. My cousin Parker, being a daredevil and all, jumped straight off the rock acting like it was no big deal. Next was McKenna, then Parker again, then my dad, and then me. I hesitated the first time I climbed up, but I had to do it just for the fun of it. I was standing on top of the rock, looking at the bright blue, sparkling water as I felt myself drop. I crashed right on top of the water and floated down until my life jacket popped me back up. The cold water was a shock right through my body and I hit the dirty water. Even though the time was scary, it was still fun jumping of a twelve foot rock, into 100 feet water.

As we hitched ourselves back onto the boats, we heard our guide say that this was one of the biggest and most dangerous rapids to go on. All of us were pretty nervous, including me. As we started our way threw, I was thinking that this was no big deal, water but all of a sudden, there were two huge rocks towering over the water. Waves were crashing around us and water sprayed in our faces, I was pretty worried, but watching the other groups go in, it looked like fun. We started to paddle and all of a sudden, we got air. Our boat flew throuh the rocks and onto the smooth part of the river. Everyone was laughing and smiling and knew why it was called the Toilet Bowl.

We kept on going through more and more rapids until we went down one specific rapid. As we went down the river, everyone stopped at this one section. It was surfing time. Surfing on a white water raft was difficult, but fun. Everyone was squeeze up front, where the guide would go in the back. We would paddle and then the guide would stand up and we would be straight up in the water! As we went, everyone screamed as loud as they could. We did that a few times until the third and final time.Everyone in my boat sat up front in the small triangle part. As we started to paddle up the deep, rocky river the boat stood straight up and all of a sudden, we flipped.

As the boat tipped over, everyone screamed. My cousin Parker. my cousin McKenna, and I  all were under the tube as they lifted it up. We all swam down the rest of the rapid until we came near the other tube for my family. All twelve of us were in the boat that held seven! It was a scary time, but it was an amazing adventure.

There were more and more fun rapids to go down after that, but surfing was by far the best. I was glad to go white waster rafting the first time with some of my family members that I only see once a year. I hope to go white water rafting again on a much more dangerous river. Maybe in a different state even! All I know is that I had a blast doing it and hope to white water raft again soon.

Personality Project

Throughout the years of my life, wonderful things have happened. My little sister being born in 2001 and my first plane ride to Washington when I was a toddler. All I’m trying to say is that amazing things have happened to me in my thirteen years.  With my family vacations, and the sports that I participate in, my life has been a fun-filled adventure.

My family is an interesting bunch. I’ll start with my mom. She is a guidance councilor for a living. She is nice, pretty, and loves to have fun. And there’s my dad. He is a fun, funny, and I have heard, crazy. When I play soccer, he is always on the sidelines cheering me on. Next is my sister. I do admit, she may make me angry, but I don’t know what I would do without her. And lastly, I have my dog, Lucy.  She is fun-loving and cute! Although my family isn’t normal, I still love them no matter what.

I am a brunette and blue eyes, but who do I get it from? Well, both of my parents have blue eyes, but only my dad has brown hair. My dad and I have a lot of things in common when it come to inherited features. For example, we both have the same colored hair and eyes. Plus, we have the same nose and toes. Although, my mom and I have certain traits in common, too. For example, we both have blue eyes and the same lips. Many people tell both of us that we look alike. And I can’t blame them.

Throughout my existence, I have liked and loved a lot of different belongings. For example, I only wash my face with this one face wash, Aveeno. Plus,  I only wear three necklaces. And most of them have hearts on them! All, I’m trying to say is that I am very interesting when it comes to my outer experience. For instance, I love to where this one sweatshirt that is from one of my basketball tournaments. It’s nice and cozy. Nobody can tell me what to wear or how to act because I am my own outer experience.

If someone asked you what are your inherited traits, what would you say? Well, it’s very attention-grabbing what I would say. For instance, I am left handed. Not many people in our school are left handed. Also, I have a medium skin type. Actually, so does my mom. Plus, I do not have any allergies. I do admit, I will sneeze once in a while, but the doctors say “No Allergies”.  I guess that isn’t that interesting if you think about, but very few people don’t have allergies, and are left handed.

When I was just a little girl at the age of 3, I started to play soccer. I was so confused on what was going on. Pretty much I just ran down the side and barely got passed the ball. Well that’s changed. Now I am playing select soccer at SC Waukesha. Also, I play club basketball for my age group. I used to be bad at those sports, but I really tried hard and had fun. That’s what helped me make the team. Also, I enjoy shopping with my friends and family. We have tons of fun hanging out together, talking, and of course laughing.  I may be shy, but I am social!

When someone would ask you “What are your talents?”, how would you respond? It’s a very difficult question. You wouldn’t want to brag about everything that you are talented at, but you wouldn’t want to be shy and not say anything either. If I was in the situation, I would say that I play soccer and basketball, plus I run cross country. Although, I do have some hobbies as well as talents. I enjoy swimming with my friends at a neighborhood pool, and riding my bike through the streets. That’s how I would respond to if someone ask me “What are you talents”.

Have you ever thought, “What would I want to be when I grow up”?  Well, when I grow up, I would want to go to a good school. Like UWMadison or Marquette University. Also, I would enjoy being a physical therapist. Although, there are other things that I would like to do when I get older. For instance, I would love to be married and of course rich! I would love to have a family with children that would follow in my footsteps by playing the different sports. When I grow up, I hope to be somebody special!

Some people like fish, others don’t. Some like pizza, others don’t. There are many different foods in the whole world, but not everyone likes each exact kind. For example, I love to eat pizza. I could eat it every day as a matter of fact. Although, I hate fish. Whenever I eat it, it tastes like the ocean. Yes, the ocean. Also, in my power point I had a sign the said Culvers. Whenever I can, I would choose to go to Culvers for a fast food restaurant. Those are the types of foods that I truly enjoy.

Sometimes, you get scared or you are drove crazy by someone. Well, those are your fears and pet peeves. Everyone has them, including me. For example, I cannot take it when a person scratches there fingers on a chalkboard. That screeching noise, I can’t take! One of my fears that I hold are a fear of spiders. Not just any spiders. The big tarantulas. The way they crawl around with those hairy legs, it gives me the creeps. Also, I have an awful fear of snakes. They slither around the grass and in the forest. I am literally afraid of hiking. What is one slithers my way! Well, those are some of the different fears and pet peeves that I contain.

Have you ever thought of your favorite day, or maybe holiday. Well I have.  There are many favorites I hold in me from seasons to numbers. For instance, I love the color blue. When I see it, I think of the ocean. That nice teal blue color. Also, I adore the season Summer. For starters, you are out of school. And secondly, it’s hot outside. I can swim and hang out with friends. Another favorite of mine is May Day, also known as May 1st. That is the day that I was born!  Those are just of few of my many favorites that I cherish within me.

In my Power Point, the slide that I was mostly stuck on was Emotions and Feelings. I couldn’t even think of what scared me and what just made me happy. And then I got something. I am sad that I broke my toe. I also have a picture of my sister on it. She unfortunately makes me angry. And lastly, I put a picture of a soccer and basketball on my slide because that is what makes me happy. Playing sports and being with my closest friends.

When it comes to life experiences, you truly have to think about the different times you’ve had with your family, and the first days of school, and any other important events that changed your life. One of the pictures it used was one that said May Day. That was my birthday! Of course it is important to me. Another picture that I added to my Power Point was a plane and the state of Washington. The first time I’ve ever flew on a plane was to Washington. And lastly, one of the pictures I had was of Kindergarten. I find that an important day of my life. I mean, it was my first day of school!

Throughout my life, I have learned that I like pizza and hate snakes. My favorite holiday is Christmas, and that I my broken toe makes me sad. Although, I have learned a lot from my family and different likings of myself. I have also learned that being normal is boring, and being yourself is what makes you, you.
