Fictional Writing

Author's Note: This is a writing piece that we wrote with around 10 students in the class. We each got assigned a different part of speech and we picked a word and tried to incorperate it into the piece. Mr. Johnson started off with the first sentence and since it had something to do with the dentist office, I made it into a bad time at the dentist office.

Robert walked slowly into the dentist's office, scared and bewildered by all the ominous machinery. He all of a sudden was nervous by what was going to go down with his teeth. Of course he has been to the dentist before, but no this one. As he walked slowly down the hallway and to the front desk, his hand was shaking of fear as he said his name unenthusiastically. The lady at the front desk was staring at him like he was crazy or something. She could see the fear right inside him.

Robert went an sat down on one of the comfy seats in the waiting areas. He looked at the different magazines seeing how crazy they were. Robert started to laugh as he looked at the cover of one of them. There happened to be a celebrity under the dog. Of course it was the Dog Crazy magazine.

Finally after that nonsense, the dental assistant opened the door and called his name. Once Robert stood up, he noticed how the assistant was happily walking down the hallway. As we reached the colorful room, he saw that there weren't any more big equipment. That must have been a trick to get people scared. What a nice dentist office. Although, inside there was a big chair and light leaning over it. I obviously saw a tooth brush and some floss, the usual. Finally, the dental assistant asked him to sit.

As I walked to the other side of the chair, I saw the wonderful view of New York City in the background. There were beautiful buildings so I decided to think about that. As I sat in my seat, the lady put bright red sunglasses on Robert's  head and turned on the light. It shined right in his eyes which made him flinch.

"Open wide!" the dentist said acting as if he was just a little boy.

Finally he cleaned his teeth and even took an X-Ray. It all went down perfectly because Robert actually fell asleep! He had his mouth open, practically frozen. Once Robert woke up, he told me that he actually dreamed of someone who jumped off the housetop, whatever that is supposed to mean. Once the whole cleaning was done, Robert walked quickly to a mirror to see how it all turned out.

"Wow!" Robert said with an excited tone in his voice.

Now, Robert is never afraid to go to the dentist again because he realized that nothing hurt. Although, Robert does have to come back again because he had a cavity.
"I wonder if that hurts" he thought.
