The Bean Trees

Author's Note: This is my essay for the novel The Bean Trees, the assignment was to add on to another writing prompt that I have written. I used the writing piece "It's the cycle of life" to conduct the end essay for the book. Also, In this writing piece I would like to work on how I would like to end with a sophisticated conclusion.

I drive in my old, decayed car going from house to house. I'm looking for a home for Turtle and I, hoping that we will not end up living on the streets. As I walk to a certain door where paint was chipped and a baby was crying in the background, I knew this is where I belonged.  I finally move in and the lady taught me life lessons that I will never forget. One was "It's the cycle of life". I then realized that everything in my life was a cycle, a cycle of something new.

In the novel, The Bean Trees , Taylor and Lou Ann had a great relationship with each other. When someone was feeling down, they would always make each other feel better. For example, when Angel, Lou Ann's ex-husband, told her that she would soon receive the divorce papers, all she did was cry. That was all just part of the cycle. She needed to keep going with her life and try to find someone else to love.

Even though Lou Ann and Taylor have been having a hard time with their lives, some good parts do come upon them.  When Taylor and Lou Ann take Turtle and Dwayne Ray to the park, they watch their children grow up. They swing on the swings together and slide down the slides. Just the two children growing up are part of this cycle. Soon they will be leaving them to go on their own, where they won't need their mothers to tell them what not to do.

Although Taylor and Lou Ann keep watching their children grow up right in front of them,  they still have something that's good in life.  First of all, Taylor gets to keep Turtle as her own child. Their cycle is just beginning as a family now.  Also, Lou Ann has been starting to understand how not to be afraid of everything she does. She will work towards completing the goals she has made and will never stop moving.

Lou Ann and Taylor do have a great relationship and bond with each other. Just some cycles in their lives they need to work out. When either of them is down, the other will help them be more happy and succeed what they are trying. When the quote "It's a cycle of life" is said, think of what cycles you have accomplished. Just like Taylor and Lou Ann, they will never look back. All you do is look forward in life.

Can Crushing Scientific Process

Problem: What is the impact of the amount of water when you are crushing a can.
Hypothesis: I think that the more water in the can the more impact it will receive. There is more mass and weight in the can, so when it burns and gets put in water, it will make a bigger compression.
Experiment:
Materials-
  1. 20 Cans
  2. Container
  3. Water
  4. Bunsen Burner
  5. Test Tube
  6. Science/Safety Glasses
  7. Tongs
Variables-
CV:  Soda cans, Bunsen burner, safety glasses, container.
IV:  Amount of water used for the soda can.
DV:  The amount of compression it has on the soda can.
Procedure-  In order to test our hypothesis, we have gathered out materials and tools for the experiment.
  1. Take a container and fill it up almost all the way with water so when you see the steam coming from the can, you can drop it in.
  2. After that, you need to take a test tube and fill it with the certain measurements  of water. This is the water the you will soon pour into the soda can.
  3. Once you pour the water into the soda can, you need to hold it over the Bunsen Burner and wait for the steam to float out of the can due to water.
  4. After you see the steam, you would need to count to five and dump the can, using tongs, into the container that you filled earlier.
  5. Once you complete all of the steps, you can then repeat each one again using different water amounts.
Observation:  After we started the can crushing, my group noticed how when there was a smaller amount of water in the can, the bigger the compression. Each time we changed the water so then the temperature wouldn't be cold for a can and hot for another. As we tested the 20 milliliter can and then the 250 milliliter can, the compression was different. Once we filled up each one with water, we noticed how the smaller the water, the smaller amount of water would fit in the can. For example, the 20 milliliter can could fit 63 milliliters afterwards. Whereas the 250 milliliter can could only fit 235 milliliters.
200-350
Conclusion:   My group for this science project wanted to test how much water in milliliters would be able to fill up in the can after the compression.  In our hypothesis, we thought that the more water in the can, the more it will crush.  Although, our results stated that the more water  in the can it didn't have a big compression.

After the first time we started the can crushing, I noticed how 25 milliliters was a big compression on the can.  Every time I put more water into each can, the cans wouldn't have that big of a compression.  When it started to get to about 150 milliliters of water, some of the cans would have a big compression, where some wouldn't have any sign of a compression at all. It started to increase the amount of water that we put in the can one we were finished.  So my hypothesis was proven wrong and with the less water, the greater the compression on the can.

What Life Would Be Like Without Electronics

Author's Note: In this piece, I wanted to explain what the times in the mid-nineties were like to our time now. There weren't different varieties of computers or phone that you can get like there is right now. Also, In this piece, I wanted to have a strong introduction that lead into my different body paragraphs. I wanted to write with a fictional narrative.

Imagine that you are walking down the street. You are in a big city so there are quite a few people. They have phones in their hands, and headphones in their ears. Then in coffee shops and restaurants, notice how it says "Free WI-FI!". There are people inside on their laptops not even talking to the person that they are there with. Electronics are a great invention in this world. They are helpful to us in many different ways and styles, and if electronics didn't exist, the world would change.

We use electronics in many different ways. First of all, it is our way of communicating. We use them to call, text, email, send picture and videos, etc. Although, what if there was no such existence of them. Like in the early times when computers and phones didn't exist. Their way of communication was sending letters through mail, or just telling the message in person.  That would be a big change in every ones lives. You would have to walk place to place just to say hi.

Electronics do have a big part in communication, although that's not the only way they are used. People enjoy playing games, listening to music, and doing their work on different electronics. For instance, my dad goes to work every day with his MacBook Air. He uses it for email, spreadsheets, and other ways.  Another way people use electronics is to play games. We have iPods not only to listen to music on, but to go on Facebook or play the newest version of Angry Birds.

Electronics help us in many different ways through work and just for free time. In the 70's and 80's, there were computers that you could go on and land-lines that you can call people on, although it is different than it is today. We have cells phones that are smaller than an apple, and new and improved portable computers. Just think about, the world without electronics would change.
